...or, they themselves are stupid enough to believe the BS they throw at you.
But I'm going to go ahead and give them the benefit of the doubt here, and assume they just think you're dumb — which is itself indicative of their repugnant views. Don't believe me? Consider the following... Over the weekend, rumors abounded, based off of fake and lazy reporting, that the Biden administration was looking to ban or limit meat consumption. There is currently no such plan in the works, and it's doubtful that such an idea will ever be proposed. But that didn't stop the "report" from being spread like wildfire by a number of conservative talking heads and Republican lawmakers on Sunday and Monday. Flash forward to Wednesday, and plenty of websites have since debunked the reporting for what it was — complete hogwash. Embarrassed by this sad state of affairs, some on the right made corrections, while others tried to ignore the fact that they spread such blatantly false tripe. A Fox News reporter even went on the air to set the record straight. So then, why is Kevin McCarthy, a congressman from California and the leader of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives, continuing to tout the false reporting as accurate? He did just that after President Joe Biden's speech before a joint session of Congress this week:
"[Biden] wants to control your life. He's going to control how much meat you can eat. Can you imagine that?" McCarthy said on Wednesday night, while speaking as a guest on Fox News' Hannity program. Why would he do this? Either he actually still believes it as gospel truth, in spite of all of the fact checks and apologies out there, or he thinks you're stupid enough to fall for it. Kevin McCarthy isn't dumb. He isn't brilliant either, but I'm willing to bet he knows this story isn't true. I'll say it once again for those in the back: Republicans think we're all idiots, and that we'll fall for whatever they want us to believe. It really says a lot about how the party in general thinks about you, and their thoughts on democracy, too, if they think they can convince you to vote for them based off these absurd claims. It's hard to believe some people want this party to run things again.
